5 Reasons Why Reading is So Important for An Entrepreneur

1, Many Billionaires Say Reading is Their Secret to Success

Studies have shown that billionaires read way more books each year than the average population and a large percentage of that hasn’t even read a single book last year.

Did you know Mark Zuckerberg reads at least 1 book every 2 weeks? That’s right, he’s the Facebook guy and he still has time to read. Stop mindlessly scrolling through social media and start doing things that helps you move forward with your life!

Bill Gates has said that he reads 50 books a year. Wowzers! That’s an average 1 book a week.

According to Elon Musk’s brother, he used to read 2 books a day. Now you don’t need a calculator to work out that’s A LOT of books!

Has that hit you yet? These billionaires are so successful and they are where they are right now thanks to the habit of reading books. Successful people read books and they read A LOT of books.

If you want to be successful, study successful people and learn their ways.

2, Reading Inspires You to Dream Bigger

It only takes a few seconds to see that we are bombarded with bad news all the time. Wherever we go, we hear and see them from the media, our friends and family.

Needless to say that negative and narrow-minded thinking do us no good in life.

Reading creates a place of escape from your life’s stress and struggle. Whether you read fiction or non fiction books, it takes you away from your reality. More than that, it gives you a space to imagine and think beyond your current situation.

The better your mind gets, the more things you get to do with your life because you’ve been stretched.

Just as Joseph Addison once said, “Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body”. You get to enjoy your everyday more and live a fuller life when you are fit and healthy, that goes with your mind too!

3, Reading Helps You Avoid Making the Same Mistakes

You see, books give you an insight of what other successful entrepreneurs have done. They show you the mistakes that many entrepreneurs have made in the past so you don’t have to go through them yourself.

Some of them have gone through bankruptcy and they share their experience with you so you learn not to go down the same road.

These are valuable lessons you could be learning from just a few pages, 20-30 minutes a day. Books give you the real-life experience without costing you too much time and money.

4, Reading Makes You Richer

Richer in your thinking as in you no longer “think” like anyone else. Reading gives you perspective and broadens your horizons.

I once heard about a story about this wealthy lady whose home was robbed many years ago and even after her TV and a few appliances were taken, she said that the stolen material things can’t compare to the wisdom and knowledge she had acquired from reading books. Those robbers stole things they thought was worth a lot but they left the “gold” on the shelves that actually taught her the skills to be wealthy.

When you are rich in knowledge, no one can ever steal that from you. The things you’ve learned from reading you get to keep for the rest of your life.

5, Reading Earns You More Money

This quote from Terri Savelle Foy says it all, “The more you read, the more you learn. The more you learn, the more you earn.”

If you want to acquire more knowledge in business and entrepreneurship, start reading related books and learning from other people who have been there and done that. By learning about their mistakes and not making them, you are saving yourself from losing money which means you are on your way to earning some.

Saying reading isn’t your thing cannot be an excuse anymore since we can also listen to our books nowadays!
